Torquil McIntosh
Co-Founder, Sybarite
Torquil McIntosh studied architecture at the Beaux-Arts in Paris and the University of Edinburgh before joining Denis Laming Architectes, where he contributed to the pioneering Parc du Futuroscope. He later joined Future Systems, working on Selfridges Birmingham and guiding the competition for Jacques Chirac’s grand projet, Musée du quai Branly in Paris.
In 2002, Torquil co-founded Sybarite with Simon Mitchell, establishing a practice defined by retail design and experiential innovation. Torquil’s approach purposefully blurs boundaries between architecture, art, and commerce, creating seamless connections between brands and their customers.
Since 2012, he has overseen Sybarite’s long-term partnership with SKP in China, shaping retail and lifestyle destinations that set new global benchmarks. Landmark projects include SKP and SKP-S in Beijing, Xi’an, Chengdu, and Wuhan. Under his leadership, Sybarite received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2016 and 2022, recognising the firm’s international impact and pioneering work in experiential retail.
